BIO
Rachael Windsong Lawson-Gurevitch is a self taught artist, born in Cochise Country, Arizona, and raised in the Similkameen Valley. Rachael spent a significant time with her grandparents in Montreal growing up, learning about art from her grandmother, a prominent oil painter, fashionista, makeup artist and chef. Rachael's mother and father supplied her with plenty of time and supplies to create without pressure. Her artistry has always included theatre, poetry, music and community organization.
Rachael emphasizes the intense contrast of darkness and the glowing warmth of fire and sun in her paintings. She finds joy, peace, meditation and a deep spiritual connection in her process. The work is organic, inspired by personal exploration of ritual, symbolism, nature, the elements, entities, and self reflection. You will notice what is referred to as "sacred geometry" in some of her pieces. Rachael has an affinity for the "feminine" manifestation of divinity on earth, known as Shekinah in Hebrew. Sometimes, she includes LED strips on the back of her wooden panels, so that tiny drilled holes light up like the night sky and the twinkling stones on earth. Canvas pieces with thick epoxy coatings allow LED light to flow through, moving light like lightening in the cosmos. Rachael paints how she sees the world. She feels things deeply. Music is for her sorrow, and painting is for her joy.
Rachael started her professional career in Victoria, BC and has participated in artist residencies and juried shows, taught paint nights and hosted multi-media events. Rachael's art was purchased for use on two hydro boxes in Sidney, BC, including the Iroquois water park. Rachael has had some great mentors over the years, such as the late Peter Voormeij and Robert Genn who appreciated her distinctive, original and recognizable style.
"To whom it may concern:
Rachael Gurevitch is an up and coming artist with a future. She has already carved out a unique style. She’s a hard worker with a great imagination, which is the combination I most often like to see in a young painter. I’ve also found her personable and easy to get along with. Any consideration you might give her would be appreciated.
All the best,
Robert Genn"

ARTIST STATEMENT
My art features sacred geometry, organic life, shadow and light, movement and optimism. An eternally playful being, who has experienced some of the darkest most impossible puzzles life confounds us with, I find healing in the productivity of communication through expressing how I feel about the beauty of the land and the elements. I work with canvas and wooden panels, using acrylics, pyrography, led strips and fluorescent paint. Much of my work reacts to UV, and I enjoy lining up my paintings under a blacklight to create 3-dimensional glowing worlds. I paint with peace, patience, clarity and joy, and I sincerely appreciate when my paintings offer inspiration, hope and pleasure to others.
